Rodgau Convention – Part 1: Setup

We started for Frankfurt on Thursday, 5:30 in the morning, too early for most of us :-). Plan was to arrive day earlier and then have the whole Friday for doing setup. Decision was made to visit one museumon our way to Frankfurt as we usually do when we travel on those kind of trips. This time it was Hans-Peter Porsche TraumWerk.

Everything went pretty well, and with slight delay on border because of tighter control, visit to the museum we arrived in Frankfurt around 21:00 after almost 1000km trip.

We planned on going to our usual restaurant (“Zum Grauen Bock”) where we have diner every time we visit Frankfurt. It is always combination of local specialties and apfel wine (or beer, or both :-)).

We arrived to the hotel, checked in and went to sleep.

Friday started with hotel breakfast and short drive to convention site. We first went inside to see our position. Everything was marked on the floor for us, vendors were installing their boots and some of the exhibitors were already setting up their layouts.

Organizers had everything under control, on time and in place. Very soon we got electric connection at our site and we went on with work.

We unloaded modules from our cars to the cart borrowed from the organizer and rolled everything into out exhibition room. We had a blanket that we use to protect module sides while we have them laying on the floor so we took a “picnic” picture before work.

It took us around 4 hours to put on all the legs and connect modules together. Boki connected DCC and made loco net cables while Dubravko and Oli made a permanent fix for two corner modules the were little bit out of alignment.

Oli touched up all the module sides with paint and Davor put on module names and our logos.

Davor and Dubravko went out and bought a pair of computer speakers to be used for two modules (Dubravko’s corner module and Boki’s church module). Original speakers weren’t loud enough in room where we exhibited. During that time, bOki placed final details that we didn’t manage to place before. He also fixed small transport damage to diner (it was about all the damage which is very satisfactory considering the length and way of loading).

As a final touch, Dubravko stapled fabric around modules to give them cleaner look. We ate dinner that organizer supplied and very soon it was end of the day. We called it a day little bit after 21:00.
