Minalittas Road module has been missing another building: garage that goes behind gas station.
It is supposed to be small garage with office attached.
I looked at what is available as kits and found nothing that fits immediately. Since this is small and simple building it seemed as perfect candidate for scratch building.
First mockup was made in SketchUp to get the quick idea. I started with plain square design but decided to make it L shaped with small office on the left side of garage.
Transparent shape on the left side is shape and size of ga sstation itself.
After some more browsing through online resources I built a second mockup. Since everything looked ok I decided to print it out as (flat) paper model and put it together to test fit on module.
I used Corel Draw to fill in the flattened out structure with simulated siding and roofing. Model was reinforced with cardboard stiffeners in the corners. This was needed (or maybe not?) since model was printed on regular (thin) paper. It will warp under its own weight and even more when printed on with ink jet printer.
Completed model turned confirmed both visual and dimensional parameters. It also turned out good enough to be used as stand in for photo shoot 🙂 (you can see it in the picture below on the right side).
Now it’s time to start building it…
