Ballasting begins

After some time away from the garage and modules we continued work with almost full team. For starter, we managed to get two consecutive days of work.

Davor began ballasting his (larger) station modules, Oli and Niko began shaping one corner module and Boki started painting rocks on another corner module.

Ballasting was done with grey ballast on the mainline and light brown on secondary lines and narrow gauge lines. Method used is well tried of spreading and forming ballast using small brush. Then, generous amount of alcohol is sprayed on top of it saturating it well. After that, ballast is soaked with mixture of white glue and water (2 parts water and one part glue). Only part missed so far between throw bar and adjacent ties. We will finish those later.

Oli and Niko began planning the landscape on Oli’s second corner module. This one will have rolling hills and arid landscape. Basic form was made using foam board. Sides are carefully cut to give a module nicer overall shape and hills are made from foam scraps that will later be covered with plaster.

Boki started painting rock outcroppings on Davor’s corner module (one with the mine on it). Rocks are pained with combination of burnt sienna and dark brown washes over ochre base (same as used all around as base color). Light grey will be later used for highlights. There might be need for additional touchups after the ground cover is done.
