Module name: Garaje Arroyo
Dimension: 100x50cm
Type: Straight module
Gauge: Standard + Narrow
Description: Module with dry creek and washed out line
This was one of the first modules to be completed and we tested some of the materials and techniques on it. Module represents dry creek with former narrow gauge line crossing.
Story behind it is that there used to be two bridges, one for standard and another for narrow gauge lines. There was a branch of narrow gauge line splitting and crossing a standard line. After some heavy rains washed out both bridges, company decided to build a new one serving both lines (and diverging a narrow gauge line). Narrow gauge branch was abandoned at the same time for the lack of traffic and switch removed. There are remains of narrow gauge bridge abutments, remains of the switch and line that went across the standard gauge line (there are some of the track remaining too).
Bridge on the module is scratch built girder bridge of ballasted deck type. Girders are built from styrene sheet and strips, archer rivets (which didn’t work as expected) glued on the sides of plywood roadbed. We didn’t cut out the plywood (although we should have) so the girders are little taller than would be prototypical to have enough of it above tracks but still hiding plywood roadbed.
Bridge abutments are made of foam covered in plaster and weathered using powders.
