Black Rock

Module name: Black Rock
Dimension: 80x80cm
Type: Corner module
Gauge: Standard + Narrow
Description: Corner module with a mine and narrow gauge branch

Black Rock is small station module with both gauge siding. There is a depot with freight platform and parts shop. Between them is parking lot for passengers that travel by train. Few pickups are (un)loading at the freight door and platform. Vehicles are mostly slightly weathered with added details (additional painted details and license plates). Weathering on cars is usually just a little dust on lower parts and tires and generally reduction of shine. Pickups have heavier weathering and maybe few dents (although, some are in better shape).
Behind the part shop is pile of parts and junk made from Woodland Scenics metal kit. Few workers are working on that side.
On far side from depot is short team track on standard gauge and parallel standard and narrow gauge siding for transferring between those two. Several workers are handling smaller parcels in this area.

Station is scratch built using styrene novelty siding and strips for trim. Doors and windows are Grandt Line and roof is Pikestuff shingles roof. Depot has complete interior and lighting. Interior includes office and bay interior with operator, ticket counter, passenger area interior and passengers and freight room interior with workers and crates. Basic form of depot follows Southern Pacific combination station at Sylmar, California with slightly altered dimension to match available space.

Parts shop is built using Walthers Modular components, painted and weathered. Signs are printed on paper and cut out (painting the cut side with marker to hide white paper). Roof is modular, plastic roof but covered with masking tape and painted thus simulating tar paper covered roof. Office half of building have interior but no light (so far).

All roads are made to simulate gravel roads and road crossing is made from stained wood. Planks between rails have slight tapper towards the end to prevent coupler trip pin catching them (if they hang too low). Crossing signs are made from balsa strips and printed out cross bucks. Cross buck consist of two parts, one in front of the pole with word “Crossing” and one behind with word “Railroad” (writing is split in two parts). Poles are painted white with black lower part (scale 6” above ground).
